Although COVID-19 continues to cloud the future, economic leaders are hopeful 2021 will provide a bounce back year for the Greater San Marcos region and beyond.

Although the pandemic has stopped many social gatherings, Veterans Day had to be celebrated. It is unlike Memorial Day, which remembers fallen heroes, Veterans Day honors all who been members of the U.S. military.

As part of the Hays County Local Health Department’s (HCLHD) continuous audit of COVID-19 data, the epidemiology team identified cases that will be removed from the county’s total case count. The first set removed was 14 on Friday; however, the total new active cases added to the list still caused the overall numbers to rise.

“Some feel pressured to choose a side in all of this. You either believe in masks or you believe in opening businesses and schools. This doesn’t make any sense,” Wimberley EMS Medical Director Steven Moore, MD, said. “If you wear a mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing, then you are doing what you can to ensure that businesses and schools open responsibly.”

A woman was arrested on multiple charges after the Hays County Sheriff’s Office received a suspicious vehicle call in Wimberley.

An investigation by the Hays County Fire Marshal and Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) led to the arrest of Kirill O. Belchenko, 32 of the unincorporated area of Hays County between Wimberley and San Marcos, on three counts of Felony 2 Arson. He was arrested Sept. 21 and booked into the Hays County Jail.

Getting around town might just get a little bit easier as the city of Wimberley has approved the first round of wayfinding signs.

During the October 19, 2020 regular meeting, the Wimberley ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the purchase of more than 200 high-end air filtration systems to be installed in all classrooms and common spaces at the four WISD campuses. Especially during the ongoing pandemic, these filtration systems will increase the level of safety for staff and students across the district.

The number of recent COVID-19 lab confirmed cases has increased over the last few weeks in Hays County.
