After a six month hiatus, Wimberley Lions Club Market Day will be back in business on Saturday, October 3, just in time for cooler weather. The normal hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be observed. Four concession stands will begin serving at 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Following the current government guidelines, face masks and six-feet-distancing will be required in all of the areas of the field. Face masks will be available for purchase, if necessary. Rodgers Holt, Market Day General Manager, added, “Hand sanitizer will be at all gates, concessions and restrooms. The restrooms will be cleansed prior to Market Day and then, periodically during the day.”
Gov. Greg Abbott announced Thursday that most of Texas will be able to loosen some coronavirus restrictions, including letting many businesses increase their capacity to 75%, as soon as Monday.
During a summer dominated by the COVID-19 virus, the Wimberley Village Library went virtual for its student reading programs and 275 teens and children read thousands of books.
After being closed for the last six months, Wimberley’s popular Markets Days is scheduled to reopen next month.
Keith Busby and Terrence Ogden of Busby’s Gym in honor of the 19th Anniversary of Patriot Day Hiked 9.11 miles starting at Wimberley Square and down Ranch Road 12 to Winters Mill and back, each carrying a forty pound rucksack on their journey. The two are no strangers to patriotic hikes. The pair hiked on March 1 in honor of the Immortal 32, those volunteers from Gonzales arrived at the Alamo on March 1. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Wimberley Valley has generally stabilized over the last few weeks.
The Hays County Criminal Justice Coordinating Commission voted Wednesday to modify the new Padilla Pilot Program and extend its services to other counties that don’t have a Padilla Attorney or a Public Defender Office.
Texas Department of Transportation officials noticed more personal protective equipment -- face masks, wipes and gloves -- on the side of roads and highways, so they called in the big guns for a new round of “Don’t mess with Texas” commercials. The celebrities featured include George Strait, Matthew McConaughey and Eva Longoria.
The Hays County Elections Office is finalizing preparations for the upcoming Nov. 3 General Election and Early Voting period. Changes have been made to polling locations because of the COVID-19 pandemic and to increase access to voting for residents.
