Wayfinding signs approved for downtown Wimberley

Getting around town might just get a little bit easier as the city of Wimberley has approved the first round of wayfinding signs.

The first phase of the plan is to place five signs at around Wimberley. The signs will feature directional arrows to key locations such at the Wimberley Square, public parking, parks and other areas that visitors may look for.

“This is part of a comprehensive idea where we can manage traffic, and get it through (town),” Councilmember Rebecca Minnick said. “We will have other ways to get people through town, but we feel like the signs are important. I think it will also help us get rid of some other signs so there is a better flow through town… The idea is to start in the center of town, down town, the Square, and then go out from there.”

The first five locations approved are on or near Ranch Road 12 on both sides of the Wimberley Square and at the intersections of FM 2325, River Road and South River. Locations are still being approved by the Texas Department of Transportation.

The signs were designed by Sign Crafters Inc. based in San Marcos.

“This is a pilot to see how things go,” Councilmember Rebecca Minnick said. “…I am hoping we will get good feedback on this, and we’ll go from there on the next batch of these.”

The cost for the first phase of the project is $16,995. Money from the Hotel Occupancy Tax fund will be used to pay for the project. Wayfinding signage is one of the approved uses for HOT funds, which can only be spent in specific ways.
