The Hays County Local Homeless Coalition formally established a local homeless coalition for San Marcos and Hays County during a recent meeting.

The Hays County Brown Santa program has started its annual drive for money, food, and toys to assist families in need in Hays County. The program consists of volunteers from the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and members of the community. Brown Santa seeks donations from citizens and local businesses for toys, canned goods, and money. Last year over 650 families were given assistance in food and/or toys throughout Hays County.

The Wimberley AMVETS Post 182 met this month and began a reboot out of the COVID lockdown. The national American Veterans organization chartered the local chapter in the fall of 2019. Just as the Wimberley Post initiated its programs, the lockdown hit and, like many other community organizations, it struggled to maintain membership and relevance.

Hays County has begun to use a new agreement with Texas State University to try and help the city of Blanco find a new path for the city’s proposed wastewater treatment expansion. The expansion would include a substantial increase in allowable discharge into the Blanco River, which the county and other organizations are trying to prevent.

The Woodcreek City Council has multiple new members after the newly elected officers were sworn in on November 18 at Camp Young Judaea. The Honorable Judge David Junkin swore in each of the new members of the 2020-2021 City Council.
