Idea to help WISD’s ‘at-risk’ students

In the Spring of 2019, the Texas Education Agency reported that 32.1% of Wimberley High School students are at risk. That means nearly one-third of the students are either failing academically, economically disadvantaged, or in trouble at school or with the law. And that means onethird are not as prepared as they could be, when they graduate and go out in the world on their own.

DATING VIOLENCE AWARENESS

“‘Do you know what is special about the month of February?” I asked the 16 year-old teenage felon I was mentoring in lockdown at the Hays County Juvenile Center. The young girl answered without hesitation, “It’s ‘Dating Violence and Prevention Awareness Month.’ The kids inside are wearing orange shorts [rather than issued gray] to show their support.”

TESPA files suit over Needmore

The Trinity Edwards Springs Protection Association (TESPA) announced today that it has filed suit in Travis County District Court challenging the decision by the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Conservation District (BSEACD) to issue a permit to Needmore Water, LLC to withdraw about 289 million gallons of groundwater each year in Hays County near Wimberley, Texas.
