KWB, Lions and city join forces to clean up

A little bit of heaven, as the welcoming signs say, is a little unkempt and in need of tidying up. That’s why the folks at Keep Wimberley Beautiful, the Lions Club and the City of Wimberley are joining forces on Leap Year Day to pick up, clean up and tidy up Wimberley.

Civic pride is rampant in Wimberley and you can show yours on February 29, 8:30 to 9 a.m. at Lions Field get an assigned an area. It really is easy; all you have to do is show up with work gloves, work clothes, closed toe shoes or boots, and a desire to keep a little bit of heaven spic and span. That’s it.

Then it is off to an assigned area, with furnished tools and garbage bags at your disposal. “It’s the perfect time to do it, with Market Days starting on the first weekend in March this year,” Carol Scheel, the Co-Vice President of KWB. “The city is donating dumpsters…and we’ll be spreading wildflowers as we clean up.”

If you like the beautiful colors that wildflowers provide all around the city, KWB is responsible and has been making Wimberley nicer since the 90s. The best part of this year’s cleanup is that the only thing needed is elbow grease and a good enough back.

KWB cleaned up FM 3237 a few Saturdays ago and provided at least one major thoroughfare a clean up, but now with volunteers the whole area can be.

At the end of the cleanup back at Lions Field, around lunchtime, hot dogs, chips and beverages will be provided to those that feel the need to help and pitch in cleaning the roads. If local groups are planning to clean an area such as a subdivision or neighborhood block on their own, KWB requests that they be notified so that efforts are not doubled.

Volunteers will meet at the Lions Field (Gate 1/ 2) to sign up and collect supplies, and then the volunteers will be assigned to an area for clean up. It is simple as that. The pride of keeping our little corner of the world clean and spruced up is personally satisfying. Something you can’t put a price tag on.

Keep Wimberley Beautiful is always looking for members. “We always need new members. We meet every other month on the first Friday at the Visitors Center. For more information about the clean up or Keep Wimberley Beautiful, contact Carol Scheel at (512) 878-9659, email at [email protected].

“Angels appear when you need them,” said Scheel. And they are needed on February 29.
