Wimberley AMVETS Post Reboots from lockdown

The Wimberley AMVETS Post 182 met this month and began a reboot out of the COVID lockdown. The national American Veterans organization chartered the local chapter in the fall of 2019. Just as the Wimberley Post initiated its programs, the lockdown hit and, like many other community organizations, it struggled to maintain membership and relevance.

At its November 18 meeting, members made plans in several areas to make sure 2021 would be different. These plans include helping local vets, participating in Wimberley community activities, and seeking new ways to encourage patriotism and civic spirit.

Newly elected Post Commander Charlie Wegman commented, “This should be recorded as an historic moment in the post’s history, as members shared ideas on how to emerge from the COVID cocoon of 2020. The meeting produced several initiatives aimed at re-igniting the spirit of community service and patriotism that led to the founding of the post. We’re looking forward to a great 2021. And we’re looking forward to having our first member from the United States Space Force.”

AMVETS is a national organization, chartered by Congress in 1947, dedicated to improving the quality of life for vets, their families, and the communities where they live through leadership, advocacy, and services. It is open to all who have honorably served or are serving in any branch of the military including the National Guard and Reserves.
