Covid-19 has brought about a lot of changes, most of them difficult, but through these changes a lot of bright new beginnings have been made possible. As the former Artistic Director of the EmilyAnn Theatre, Bridget Gates and her team of teachers, students, and actors believe it’s essential to continue offering theatre education to the community and children of Wimberley and Central Texas. Hundreds of young students have created a safe, loving, and artistic community together as a theatre family. Central Texas Theatre Academy will allow these students, and many new and future students, to continue learning, loving, and growing with the same team and programs they feel comfortable and safe in, but now in a new building with a new name. Thanks to the wonderful support of the Wimberley community, CTTA is just wrapping up their first session of drama classes for ages 5-18. The Musical Theatre Academy students participated in professional dance and voice workshops, while the Acting Academy students had guest professional Acting workshop teachers. Registration for the spring semester starting in January, which includes performances of The Outsiders and Disney’s Frozen, Jr is already underway. They also have two wonderful Christmas events coming up: An interactive, 35 minute adaptation of A Christmas Carol, perfect for children of all ages AND a Princess Holiday Ball where your prince and princess can meet and take pictures with many Disney princesses and good ol’ Saint Nick! A Christmas Carol, adapted by D. Heath Thompson, is running December 5-20, Saturday mornings at 10am and Sundays at 2pm. The Princess Holiday Ball is on December 11, 12, and 19th. All events are limited seating so buy your tickets for both ASAP. You can register for drama classes, buy tickets to the Christmas events, or make donations to Central Texas Theatre Academy at www.centextheatre.org.
