Wimberley falls to Decatur in State Championship

Decatur started off hot in the first set after taking a 7-0 run to go up 7-1 on Wimberley. The Texans came back to cut the lead down the 8-4.
After a fierce back and forth, Wimberley trailed 10-7, but an 8-1 run opened up the gap as Decatur took an 18-8 lead.
Though Wimberley fought hard, the Texans couldn’t overcome the gap losing the first set at 25-13.
Wimberley again fought hard with Decatur in the second set as the two teams traded points. After a service error by the Eagles, Wimberley trailed 9-6.
Another tough battle saw the Texans trail by 12-8 following a kill by Ava Kientz, but the Eagles soon went on a 7-1 run to take a 19-9 lead.
Again the Texans fought back but couldn’t overcome the Eagles attack and fell in the second set at 25-12.
The third set turned into another tough early battle as the Wimberley Texans fought hard against the tough Decatur front. After a kill by Brina Jones, Wimberley trailed 8-6.
A 6-0 run by the Eagles put Decatur up 14-6. The Eagles then pushed Wimberley to their breaking point at 20-13.
Though the Texans were down, Wimberley did not give in and furiously fought back to make the game 23-18.
However, Decatur shut the door on the Texans’ comeback and won the third set 25-19 to capture the 4A State Championship.
Paige Crawford led the team in kills with eight while Cameren Davis led the team in blocks with three.
The Wimberley Texans finish the season with a 30-5 record with the team advancing to the State Tournament for the first time since 2010.
