Local COVID-19 active cases stabilize

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Wimberley Valley has generally stabilized over the last few weeks.

The Wimberley Valley has 24 active cases as of September 14, with one of those being within the city limits of Woodcreek. That is up one from last week’s total of 23 and down two from the week before. This means that the amount of locals considered to have recovered from the disease roughly equals the amount of new people who have tested positive over the last few weeks. Overall, there have been 92 total cases of COVID-19 in the Wimberley Valley.

Wimberley ISD is reporting COVID-19 cases related to the school on wimberleyisd.net. Blue Hole Primary has not had any reported COVID-19 cases from staff or students since the new school year began. Jacob’s Well Elementary has one reported student case, and that is now considered recovered. Danforth Junior High has two staff members that have tested positive for COVID-19. Wimberley High School has one reported student case, and that is now considered recovered.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Hays County is 5,656 with 1,930 of those considered active. The number of individuals considered recovered is 3,674. The number of negative tests is 25,678.

There have been 52 deaths related to COVID-19 in Hays County. The county has had 164 total hospitalizations and 11 people are currently hospitalized. The number of people currently hospitalized has been slowly but steadily dropping in Hays County. Some patients are in hospitals outside Hays County but are included in the numbers if they reside here. Likewise, an individual from another county who is in a local hospital would be accounted for in their county of residence.

The 20 to 29 year old demographic still dominates the chart of Hays County individuals who have tested positive COVID-19 with 2,158, but it is no longer the fastest rising demographic. The 10 to 19 year old demographic has received more new lab confirmed COVID-19 cases in each of the last three weeks. As of September 14, the 10 to 19 demographic had 573 total lab-confirmed cases, which was 53 more than the week prior and 103 higher than two weeks ago.
