Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance announces new board, website, member drive

The Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance approved its leadership slate for 2021 at its January 2nd board meeting. Deirdre Taylor, who took over as President mid-2020 has been re-confirmed as President for 2021. She is joined on the executive committee by Vice President, Kimberley Springer-Smith; Secretary, Pamela Rudd; Treasurer, Karen Poe; and Past President, Hilda Carpenter, Ph.D.

Broun honored by HTGCD

Longtime Hays County resident and Geologist Al Broun was recognized for his illustrious career in late 2020 with a special recognition of excellence by the Board of Directors of the Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District. “The District wanted to recognize Al’s tireless scientific curiosity and remarkably generous volunteer work -- creating valuable maps and data-sets that will serve this community for years to come,” said Holly Fults, Hays Trinity Board President.

Civic Club spring events adapted to maximize fun, minimize threat

“If you’re afraid to get out, we get it,” says WCCC Spring Events coordinator Robin Lowe. “We’ve pared our calendar to include just three outdoor events and further designed them to minimize as much risk as possible to keep everyone safe.” The Wimberley Community Civic Club’s Spring Events programs raise substantial money for more than 25 local charities and gives scholarships to college bound-seniors. “But we chose to offer them, though heavily modified, this year because our community still needs the money we raise, perhaps now more than ever.”

Planning the future roads of Wimberley

Hays County has prepared a draft Transportation Plan and is hosting a Virtual Open House to share the recommendations for community review and feedback. The Transportation Plan was originally completed in 2013 and last amended in 2016. It is being updated to identify safety improvements, improve regional connections and mobility and plan for expected growth and development.
