Civic Club spring events adapted to maximize fun, minimize threat

“If you’re afraid to get out, we get it,” says WCCC Spring Events coordinator Robin Lowe. “We’ve pared our calendar to include just three outdoor events and further designed them to minimize as much risk as possible to keep everyone safe.” The Wimberley Community Civic Club’s Spring Events programs raise substantial money for more than 25 local charities and gives scholarships to college bound-seniors. “But we chose to offer them, though heavily modified, this year because our community still needs the money we raise, perhaps now more than ever.”

“But if you decide to stay home, we completely understand, but consider donating money via our website wimberleyccc.org, or by sending a check to Wimberley Community Civic Club, P.O. Box 416, with attention to Becky Selman,” she says.

Trivia Night, April 26, 6-10 pm, will be held in the outdoor pavilion at Messina Inn, 1000 Cypress Creek, in Wimberley. Ten teams of six (instead of the usual eight) will compete for trophies and publicity in lieu of cash prizes. A barbeque sack dinner will be served and BYOB is allowed. Teams are urged to register early via the WCCC website starting Jan. 30 as slots will go quickly.

The Home Tour, April 16 & 17, 10-5 pm, includes four unusual homes and a commercial glamping operation that features yurts. In lieu of the kickoff party, an online auction will be held. Ticket sales will be online, cash and check with ticket pick up at the Visitor’s Center in Wimberley, 14100 FM2325 (512 847-2201). Watch the website for details, wimberleyccc.org.

The Golf Tournament, May 17, will be held at the Quicksand at Woodcreek Golf Club, 1 Pro Lane, in Wimberley, with a rain date the following Monday, May 24. Four-man teams will compete in a Golf Scramble. A BBQ lunch is included with registration which begins Jan. 30 via the WCCC website, wimberleyccc.org.

“While the risks of gathering are uppermost in our minds, we think at this time, with the proper precautions, we can safely hold these events to raise money for our charities. Since most of our activities have been curtailed this year, we hope the community will come forward and donate all they can.”
