As is happening with many events, the play button is once again replacing the pause button when it comes to activities after last year. One event that is back, but in a different form, is the Friends of the Village Library Book Sale.
Each year in my backyard wildflower meadow (deer protected) there is a succession of flowers. Red Poppies dominate the scene starting the end of March, along with pink Mexican Primroses. Then the yellow Engelmann Daisies appear and toward the end of April the Gaillardia (Indian blanket) dominate the field. The lavender Monarda (Lemon Beebalm) are the last widespread wildflower before the summer heat sets in. The Monarda are doing better than the Gaillardia (Indian blanket) this year. Most years I need to pull up clumps of Gaillardia to give the Monarda sunlight and space to grow.
The best burger in Wimberley is taking a short break.
Red kettle drums, a ringing hand-bell and smiling face at Brookshire Brothers can mean only one thing, the Salvation Army. But they do a lot more. Yes, their big fundraiser is at Christmas time. But they do so much more.
Scholarships can be life changing for those trying to take on the often-monumental task of paying for college. Some help pay for books, others can be large enough to pay for a semester or perhaps even a year of college.

The Wimberley Lions Club will hold their popular monthly Market Day on Saturday, June 5, to kick off our Summer of 2021 Market Days. Beer, wine and almost all concession stands will be open as the Lions gear back up to normal Market Days after the Covid virus. Of most importance to many Market Day visitors is to know that our delicious Barbecue House will be open with all the delicious items that we have come expect from Market Day barbecue. And the number of concession and beer stands returns to the number that visitors are accustomed to.

Two blooming native wildflowers that are easy to spot from the road these days are Mexican Hat and Thistle. They are both native but they also have a tendency to take over if not controlled.
If you saw social media posts or news clippings from the Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP) last week, you know that we are fresh off a fantastic Economic Development Week.
On the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend, my daughter and I decided to drive the Willow City Loop.. If you have never done this before, and even if you have, I recommend you consider doing so. Directions are at the end of this article.
The pandemic caused delays. So did February’s freezing weather. The skyrocketing cost of materials certainly didn’t help, and building supplies were hard to come by as well. But Wimberley’s Habitat for Humanity is back in action again with their 22nd house in this area. Locally Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity was formed in 1992. It is an affiliate of Habitat International, a non-profit, ecumenical, Christian housing organization.
Being a teacher is harder than being a farmer, in one big respect. As a farmer you get to see your efforts at the end of the growing season, a teacher’s efforts might not be appreciated until years later.
