Round’em up for Hunters Night Out

Hunters Night Out (HNO), sponsored by St. Mary Knights of Columbus held on October 23, will offer two Longhorns at their live auction. John Czop, a Knight of the Order, feeds cattle cubes to the herd while looking over the available calves. A Yellow Splash for the Summer Heat

After writing a couple of weeks ago about finding Nymphalidae butterfly larva on my Sunflower plants, today I found more than a dozen border patch butterflies (chlosyne lacinia) on the nearby Zexmenia. Zexmenia (Wedelia acapulcensis), along with sunflowers, is one of the host plants for the beautiful border patch butterfly.

First Stage Theatre Camp for Kids at Wimberley Playhouse

The Wimberley Players has again opened up the world of theatre to children with the First Stage Theatre Camp. In this threeday camp for kids aged 8 to 13, participants can peek behind the curtain into the dynamic and rewarding world of theatre. Held at The Wimberley Playhouse, the workshop will inform campers how theatre originated, demonstrate the way a theater’s space is used, and show by what means a production comes to life through the collaboration of multiple disciplines and artists. Kids will gain sound theatre training in a structured, fun-filled atmosphere and learn confidence, how to express themselves, and ways to work patiently and respectfully with each other.

Alexis Pointe residents say thanks with Butterfly mural

For about a year or so, when we were all cooped up, Alexis Pointe was extra careful with their residents. So careful that residents did not experience the disease. It was hard on everyone, especially the seniors living there who were sheltered inside. EmilyAnn found unique ways to safely provide needed programs to entertain the residents oftentimes by performing different activities outside the window of each resident.

Wabi Sabi is sweeping more than floors

It might be a little hard to find, but in a small house, with a small room just off a small dirt road along Wayside Drive is a set of beautiful handcrafted brooms. Displayed along the walls, no two are alike, and each has its own story. This is a place to ponder the world and appreciate nature, somewhere that’s a little slower-paced. It also houses a time honored craft, broom making.

Keep Wimberly Beautiful

There is not a big variety of wildflowers blooming right now, but Mountain Pinks are blooming on a road near me, Spoke Hollow Road just off RR12 and just a short distance beyond 1492 as you have headed toward San Marcos. The flowers are along the roadside, primarily on the right side of Spoke Hollow. The clusters of these lovely pink flowers look like a small bouquet, and indeed, just one picked one would make a lovely display. (I’m not recommending that you pick them, however. Just admire them and allow them to re-seed for future years.) The flowers prefer “dry, barren, open areas on calice or marl outcrops” according to Wildflowers of the Texas Hill Country. The plants themselves are about 6” - 8” high. Its bloom period is from May to July so hurry if you wish to spot them. This flower is apparently not one of our most common as I don’t see them in too many places.
