A good summer read is easy to get at Library Mini Book Sale
As is happening with many events, the play button is once again replacing the pause button when it comes to activities after last year. One event that is back, but in a different form, is the Friends of the Village Library Book Sale.
Last Saturday June 12, in the Library’s parking lot, was the first new sales concept in the Book Sale. Instead of just having one sale a year, having a few minisales might replace the one weekend sale a year.
“There was no sale last year, due to Covid. Chapel in the Hills was not open. It was a big fundraiser with needed funds flowing back to the library. Eighty percent of the books that are sold are donated,” said Dennis Lee, FOVL’s President.
But a huge once-a-year event was taking a toll on volunteers, putting up and taking down tables every night only to put them up again. “The sale was wearing out manpower for three days or more.” Trying out smaller sales with themes, such as this one, summer reading for kids and teenagers and especially with Dad ’how to’ type books.
Around Thanksgiving, there might be a Holiday Themed one and others.
Volunteers were on hand, trying to keep cool in this heat and high humidity. Book sales will help the library cover costs that aren’t included in the budget, such as science kits for children and the programs that reach everyone from kids to grownups and seniors. There are programs going on all week, perhaps one interests you.
