Saturday, April 3, is the next Wimberley Market Day. Now that Spring has sprung, the day before Easter Sunday promises to be as successful as the March 6 event. On that particular Saturday, mother and daughter, Sheryl and Sarah Simmons drove from Belton, Texas, just to join the many visitors at Lions Field.

The Rotary Club of Wimberley is happy to announce the winner and runner up of the 3rd Danforth Rotary Loves Readers contest of the school year. This challenge asked students to read a biography of their hero, then compare their hero’s strengths, challenges, flaws and achievements. We had a tie for runner up between Jack Malone with his entry on Albert Einstein, and Madeleine Smith with her entry on Mr. Fred Rogers. Jack and Madeleine shared the $50 prize. The winner of a crisp $100 bill was 6th grader, Hayden Hall, for his entry on Abraham Lincoln. Congratulations to Hayden, Jack and Madeleine.
Arthur D’Andrea, the chair and sole remaining member of the Public Utility Commission, resigned late last week at the request of Gov. Gregg Abbott. D’Andrea pledged to remain on the PUC until Abbott names a replacement. In the announcement Abbott said in part, “Texans deserve to have trust and confidence in the Public Utility Commission, and this action is one of many steps that will be taken to achieve that goal.”
Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is now accepting applications for community grants. Nonprofits within, or surrounding PEC’s service territory, are encouraged to apply for grants up to $5,000. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Thursday, April 1.

H-E-B is big, as big as Texas, with 340 stores across the state and some in Mexico. Sandra’s Salsa is a Wimberley success story, and it keeps growing in popularity. When the two got together with H-E-B in 2015, she entered the “Texas Quest for the Best Contest,” and was then carried in a limited number of stores.
On March 5, at the 125th Annual Meeting of the Texas State Historical Association, TSHA’s membership elected Wimberley historian Dr. Patrick Cox as the Association’s 78th President. Dr. Cox will serve a one-year term, succeeding outgoing president Mary Margaret McAllen.
The Hays County Jail passed an unannounced on-site visit from the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) Tuesday following a request for investigation from Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra.
