Use Color Echoes: In the Landscape to Create Visual Magic

Oh, the possibilities with that Wicked Witch! Son James dazzled me again with a combination planting featuring this year’s hot new coleus ColorBlaze Wicked With coleus and Canary Wing begonia. Immediately I noticed his carefully intentioned design of having the lime green margins of the coleus echo the golden-lime of the Canary Wing begonia.

Color Coded Coneflowers Dazzling in Performance & Pollinators

The Price is White looks to be one of the hottest new coneflowers making its debut in the spring and you need to line out your sources now, for not only it but the entire Color Coded series. The size of coneflower blossoms is not something we tout as horticulturists but with The Price is White, I have to say they are the largest echinacea flowers I have ever grown. Pristine white blossoms that don’t mature to ugly makes The Price is White a real winner.

Keep Wimberley Beautiful

This month I have been noticing a small pink puffy flower by the side of the road. It is Palafoxia (Palafoxia callosa). The plant is between 1 and 2 feet tall and the singular light pink-lavender flowers are well spaced apart giving the plant an airy appearance. You probably will not notice the slender sparse leaves, unless you consciously look for them.

Being a high school math teacher, knowing and understanding calculus, algebra, and even physics is quite easy for Rob Landauer. It comes with the job. But no matter how it is measured or calculated, one hundred miles is a long distance, especially on foot. This is the goal, one hundred miles in about one day that Landauer has set for himself.

Frostweed

When I am trying to come up with an idea on a subject for my every other week KWB column, I usually look around in my own yard and neighborhood for inspiration. This morning as I was siting out in the swing, I noticed the rather large white flowers on the Frostweed plant. Frostweed has a name that really does seem to identify it. First, it is somewhat weedy and can easily become invasive. The leaves are large, and the plant can be from four to six feet tall although it is usually around 4 feet. Its unique peculiarity is that when a heavy frost comes, its stems split open and emit a liquid that turns into what I call “snowcone ice”. This unique formation of ice melts fairly soon, so, hopefully, you will see it on your early morning excursions.
