Rotary of Wimberley Loves Readers contest

The Rotary Club of Wimberley is happy to announce the winner and runner up of the 2nd Danforth Rotary Loves Readers contest of the school year. This challenge asked students to illustrate the cover of their favorite chapter book and write a brief statement about why the book is their favorite. The runner up with his entry on the book “Wonder” by R. J. Palacio was 6th grader, Reed Kruzie. Reed received $50. The winner of a crisp $100 bill was 6th grader, Claire Rickert, for her entry on “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”

Pyracanthas

I have certainly been missing the colorful foliage that the sumacs provided us for several weeks. I drove around town and tried to find something else colorful. No luck. Then I came home, and lo and behold, my own yard offered one plant with color, right outside my front door! It is a pyracantha.

12 Kings Classic Car Club donates to Barnabas Connection

12 Kings, a classic car club, donated $500 to the Barnabas Connection (l to r) Jay Stiles, Mike Cochran, Bill Ward, Charlie McFarren, Johny O, Bob Chamberlin and George Graham. They also presented a $500 check to the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center in San Marcos. Both donations were made in the memory of Charles Ward. Locals write ‘Caregiver’s Journey’ as a map to follow

Many of us have been there; many will be there at some point in their lives, either now or in the future. Taking care of an elderly loved one from a distance; it can be stressful and can take lots of time and worry. Local authors teamed up to write a book with first-hand advice on going through this transitional time and how to cope with the problems that arrive.

From new member to president of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Mary’s Catholic Church

Charity begins at home, the old saying goes, and the numerous 501(c)3 nonprofits and charities in Wimberley do their best in being there for those in need. One organization that has helped many, regardless of religious affiliation, is the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

A legacy of beautification

Accolades for Martha Knies have been well earned. Take a look around Wimberley and you’ll see Martha’s stamp. It is all over the spring wildflowers or spruced up highways with minimal trash. It is in the flower beds that aren’t over grown with weeds. The fingerprint of her green thumb is everywhere.
