EMS fundraiser for ambulance

The EMS Duck Race down the Blanco River is one community event that is well attended and provides a lot of fun for the community. It also one way the Wimberley EMS can raise funds to provide for the latest life-saving equipment in their ambulances for the residents of the Wimberley Valley. But the pandemic put a quick halt to plans for 2020.

Helm ‘fabricated’ documents, surrenders license

Constable Ray Helm has permanently surrendered his peace officer’s license and submitted his resignation while also admitting to investigators that he falsely reported training to the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement that he knew did not constitute training for TCOLE purposes. A TCOLE investigation says that Helm “fabricated” documents to “memorialize” the training session they say did not occur.

Texas faces a looming $4.6 billion deficit

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar delivered bleak but unsurprising news Monday: Because of the economic fallout triggered by the coronavirus pandemic, the amount of general revenue available for the state’s current two-year budget is projected to be roughly $11.5 billion less than originally estimated. That puts the state on track to end the biennium, which runs through August 2021, with a deficit of nearly $4.6 billion, Hegar said.

Dry times in Wimberley Valley

These are dry times, and creeks and groundwater levels are starting to really show it. It’s been nearly two months since the last major rainfall (Edwards Aquifer Authority weather station on the Blanco River near Burnett Ranch Road reported 2.5″ on May 25th and less than 0.25” on July 25-26). Summers in Central Texas are typically dry and hot; this year is no exception.

Railroad Commission: ‘Continues extensive inspections’ of pipeline

Inspectors with the Railroad Commission of Texas are continuing critical inspections of the Permian Highway Pipeline (PHP), one of the largest pipeline projects under construction in Texas in 2020. Stretching more than 400 miles from the Permian Basin to the Houston area, the pipeline will bring West Texas’ natural gas to the world market.
