Process to replace Helm on the ballo

The Republican and Democratic parties will each choose a candidate to appear on the November ballot to replace Ray Helm as Precinct 3 Constable following his withdrawal from the ballot.

Each party is going through the process a little differently while staying within the confines of the Texas Election Code.

“The statute dictates that the party chairs from that constable precinct would be the ones that would vote on the nomination of that candidates,” Jennifer Anderson, Hays County Election Administrator, said.

The Precinct Chairs within the Hays County Constable Precinct 3 for the Democratic Party that will be able to vote are Mary Espinoza, Mindy Webber and Nan Simpson. For the Republican Party, the chairs are Anna White, Travis Brown, Nancye Britner, Debi Christensen and Ken Roberts.

The chairs, and potentially members of the party’s executive committee living within the precinct, will ultimately vote on which candidate will be on the ballot in November for the seat.

The Democrats have created an application for potential candidates to fill out and will attempt to hold interviews with potential candidates before and during a public meeting that will be held Zoom on August 14 at 10 a.m. Applications are due by August 7 and can be obtained by emailing Mary Espinoza at [email protected].

The Republicans are holding a public meeting on August 6 at 6 p.m. Vintage Oaks Farm, 400 Limestone Lane, Driftwood. Those wishing to be considered as a candidate can show up and present at the meeting.
