Enriching the season: Wimberley’s Biblical village

Taking a step back into Biblical times with a little technological help made it easy to imagine those times from the comfort of your car. After all, even in these times of pandemic, it is the Christmas season, so what do you do to celebrate as a community?

Wimberley’s First Baptist Church had a great idea. Why not have a recreation of times, events and people of the Bible. How do you keep everyone safe while having such a happening?

Genius! Why not have a drive through of major events leading up to the Savior’s birth and life? Prophets, a Biblical village, the manger with Mary and even an evil serpent with a half eaten apple were there, but with a twist.

In this day of Zoom, Google and iPhones, the program handed out as you enter had a QR code that was scanned by your phone and then told the story of each of the stops while driving on the path, all this while inside the safety of your car.

Of course, when driving out to reality, the smells of sausage and turkey legs were sure to temp you, and Frozen’s Anna and Elsa (the Collie sisters, Daltyn and Jadyn) were there too, to help with the festivities.

What a great way to start the Christmas season in times of pandemic and darkness. All it took was just a little technology and a lot of inspiration to shine a light on the season, even in 2020.
