Trying to focus on kindness
Like many, I find the divisiveness, the rancor, and even boorishness that seems to increasingly permeate society both locally and beyond to be most unsettling. I am especially disturbed by a tendency in me to want to retaliate, to fight fire with fire. Then I remember these wise words (attributed to many). “Choose your enemies carefully because you will become like them.” So I am looking for positive ways to respond when I see/hear ugliness.
I can use unsavory words and actions to motivate me to go out of my way to plant seeds of kindness, love and compassion. I can be generous with heartfelt compliments even to those I do not know. I can send notes of encouragement. I can donate money to worthwhile organizations. I can pray for those who think differently from me, pray that they feel loved and that they are free from pain in all the ways pain can manifest itself. I can avoid “drop in the bucket” thinking, knowing that even small acts done with love can make a big difference.
Wimberley has many creative people who collectively can make a real difference in our community and world by choosing to let negativity motivate them to find ways to contribute positive energy. This is important; find your own way to help. Thank you and love to all.
