Supporting Prewitt for County Commissioner Precinct 3

Why I’m voting for Lisa Prewitt for Commissioner Precinct 3

I’m voting for Lisa Prewitt this election for 3 reasons.

First, as someone who lives and works outdoors, Lisa understands our climate crisis at a gut level. Our community has endured both “500-year” and “1000-year” floods in just the last few years. Either we are very unlucky, or those odds are inaccurate and we have a climate crisis to deal with. Lisa will listen to climate scientists and consider the impact of her decisions on current and future generations.

Second, respect for taxpayers. Current practice in Hays County gives the commissioner sole power to award millions of dollars in contracts for roads and other infrastructure. No-bid contracts to political donors and lobbyist buddies is all too common. Lisa Prewitt will work to implement good government reforms that respect our tax dollars, like an open and public bidding and selection process.

Finally, Lisa will be relentless in pursuing equal justice under the law for all of our neighbors. Locking people up is big business in Hays County. Affluent families experience a very different justice system than those struggling to get by. A majority of the people in our jails are innocent in the eyes of the law and have been approved for release on bail, but simply can’t afford it. When the community demanded reforms last year, I expected my Commissioner would lead, follow, or get out of the way. Instead, he put himself in charge and then slow walked it, preserving the status quo.

If you believe in respect for taxpayers and equal justice for all, and if you want a leader who will, in her every deliberation, consider the impact of her decisions on the next seven generations, please join me in voting for Lisa Prewitt!!

The citizens and residents of Hays County need Lisa Prewitt as the new County Commissioner for Pct. 3, which includes all of the Wimberley Valley. I endorse her fully and completely. Lisa has a proven record of achieving common sense solutions to real issues on the San Marcos City Council and additional boards. She has protected our quality of life, our environment, and our tax dollars with wise planning and budget-wise decisions on development planning, stormwater controls, multi-modal transportation, etc. Lisa’s approach, like mine, is to define the core elements of an issue, do the research on the possible solutions, work collaboratively with stakeholders, and craft a solution that SOLVES the issue for ALL! She is not beholden to cronies or powerbrokers. She is transparent and is her own person. She will be a great servant leader for Precinct 3 and Hays County. Vote. Vote. VOTE ALL the way to the end of the ballot.

What Wimberley Valley needs is someone who looks at the big picture. We need someone who understands our current and future growth and who will work hard to accommodate that growth in a thoughtful way.

Lisa Prewitt has unequivocally demonstrated why she should be commissioner through her work in San Marcos as a City Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem. I know that her leadership would clearly benefit the Wimberley Valley. Anything that our current commissioner has done for our environment, Lisa would do it in spades.

I believe I am in a unique position from which I write this letter to express my whole-hearted support for Lisa. Not only have I had a family business in downtown Wimberley for 40 years and served as Wimberley’s Mayor when Blue Hole was saved from development, but I have served on the City’s Master Plan Review Committee and as Chair of the Hays Transportation Advisory Board. However, my recommendation for electing Prewitt for County Commissioner stems from both my public service lens and also from a personal lens. Yes, her children proudly call me “Uncle”!

I have had the privilege of knowing Lisa as my sister-in-law and also through our public service, and I believe that Lisa will do what we need every great elected official to do: unite our community.

In a time of so much political divisiveness, as we weather this global pandemic together, Lisa is the environmental advocate that we need! She reaches out to all stakeholders and builds consensus and coalition regardless of political affiliations. She proceeds cautiously while always forward-thinking, and she will help us maintain smart growth while always upholding our environment as the MOST special thing we must defend. I’m proud to call Lisa my family, and I look forward to calling her my County Commissioner.
