The many murals of the Wimberley Valley

There are many attractions in Wimberley — from the natural resources of the parks to the well-tended store fronts and restaurants.

One of the many things that Keep Wimberley Beautiful loves to do is support beautification projects in the community and this includes our murals. Have you seen the many murals around town? Each one is unique and showcases our community’s artistic talents and creativity; we are very lucky to have a wealth of artists that volunteer with KWB.

The “Little Bit of Heaven” mural on the wall of Chill’s on RR 12 near the Wimberley Square is certainly an eye-catcher. How many times have you seen visitors stop to take their photo next to it? The mural was originally painted 10 years ago by Ramone, who now resides in Spain. It was restored less than two years ago with paint that unfortunately failed the test of time, according to Chill’s business owner, Chase Philmon.

The Texas sun certainly takes its toll.

KWB recently supported the restoration of this mural with the help of local artist Sharon Gwen Carter. Carter was commissioned by KWB in 2014 to paint the “Rock Wall & Critters” mural on the 207-foot retaining wall across the Cypress Creek Bridge and the frontage of the Community Center.

Next time you are walking around the Square or across the bridge, pause and check out the murals or the flags around the Welcome to Wimberley signs. Our volunteers will soon be draping the July 4th bunting across the bridge in preparation for the Best Little Parade in Texas.

Remember that the doors of the “Little Bit of Heaven” mural are in constant motion so be careful if you want to get a photo of the recent restoration.
