A Case For KWVH-LP FM and The Texans

A decision is going to be made in the very near future about who will obtain the rights to broadcast The Wimberley High School Texans Varsity Football Games for the next few years. The two options are: Wimberley’s Community Radio Station KWVH LP 94.1 FM and KOWO-LP FM 104.1

Of course, we feel that the best decision for Wimberley High School, the WISD Board and Superintendent Dwain York is to select KWVH LP FM 94.1. Here are the reasons why!

1) We can assure the school, the athletes the families and fans of the school athletic pro-grams that KWVH’s football play by play broadcast content, or any other sport covered will be comparable to what you have experienced in the past and we will strive to improve the performance. The same goes for your ability to receive the broadcasts. You will hear it on KWVH LP FM, streaming on wimberleyvalleyradio.org and on our very own KWVH radio app. In other words, you will be able to listen to the sports play by play broadcast wher-ever you go.

2) We will integrate several other information and programs related to Wimberley High School Sports, and other academic news into our live and local programming during the week. We currently air 80 hours weekly of live and local programming. This gives the school, the ath-letes and the students a much greater chance for exposure with more listeners and the entire school system an opportunity for improved branding.

3) We are already incorporate WISD programming in our KWVH lineup since we received our FCC broadcast license in late February of 2016.

A) Coach Smith and Coach Doug Warren Wednesday’s from 9:00 until 9:15.

B) Coach Brad Bigger’s “ Bigger’s Moments in History plus sports updates Thursdays from 9:00 until 9:15 and again on Sundays.

C) Tailgating with the Texans hosted by Darren Massur, Cougar Kevin Adams and Gary S n o e , Fridays 4:00 to 4:00pm. Volleyball, baseball, cross country, softball, the band. All is discussed on this show.

D) Kids View with “Texas and Sammi” Sundays from 2;00 to 3:00pm

E) Real Mom’s featuring four Wimberley Mom’s that are former students and now mom’s raising and guiding their children through the WISD system Friday’s 3:00 to 4:00pm. Chrissy Neal, Kelli Go Forth, Bonnie Cantu Leach and Suzie Lowry.

F) Supporting and broadcasting from the Texas Tailgating fund raiser for three years in a row.

G) On air support through our Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce program “Wimberley is Open”, Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:00 pm hosted by Cathy Moreman

H) Voice of the Texans every Saturday from 10 until noon hosted by Joe Smith and Robert Hartigan. This program aired from August 2016 through 2018. We will resurrect this show in some form again in 2020 and beyond.

I) We have had several former High School students return KWVH during Coach Dick Smith’s “Over Easy with Coach” radio program. Many of them are musicians that have per-formed live on his show between 8:00 and 10:00 Monday through Friday.

J) We have participated with Wimberley High School with a Broadcast Practicum for three years. 2018 Brooke Barrett, 2019 Michael Jones, and 2020 Griffin Neal.

4) We propose to support Wimberley High School Sports by making a donation to WISD every High School Football game and participate in a revenue sharing opportunity at the end of the season.

5) KWVH is Wimberley’s Community Station. We have over 65 volunteers working with our station contributing over 500 hours of their time per week to provide you with 23 different radio programs weekly. Many of these volunteers have close ties with a part of the Wimberley edu-cation system.

6) 4000 hours per year of live and local Wimberley programming on KWVH LP, is 8 times more than the other station considered. KWVH is truly Wimberley’s “go to” Community Radio station!

7) As a result of partnering with several of the 66 plus non profits in this community we were selected as “Non Profit of the Year 2018” by the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce. We are working hard to be a good citizen, friend and ambassador for the Wimberley Valley.

We are confident that Superintendent Dwain York, the WISD Board will make a good decision regarding the broadcast rights. Thank you for your consideration and thank you for listening to KWVH LP FM 94.1.

Sincerely,

Mike Crusham
