Wimberley Youth Sports benefit features Jesse Stratton

Youth baseball in the spring is as American as you can get. Learning the game at an early age is a stepping-stone to understanding teamwork and honing athletic skills. In Wimberley, the Wimberley Youth Sports Association is that stepping stone. Saturday May 22 is the day of a fundraiser for baseball/softball includes a concert and BBQ.

“This is just a fundraiser for the Sonny Gold fields for the home of the baseball, and softball programs. Jesse Stratton and his band have always been supportive of the Little League with his son participating, and he offered to play a concert… We wanted to have something that was kind of a celebration, and that was kind of the root of it.” Andrew Peeler, WYSA Baseball Director said.

“We had some friends that knew some guys who do barbecue... It’s something I don’t think we’ve ever really done before, specifically for the baseball, softball program. It is something that we want to put together, especially the year that we’re coming out of Covid.”

This is the first time WYSA has done this type of fundraiser, BBQ and a concert. What a great way to spend a Saturday night.

“Doing it this way you’re also engaging the parents, and giving them a little bit of ownership. We’re hoping it turns out and does well. We’re hoping it is successful for a first time event.”

Activities include a bounce house, home run derby and a dunk tank, fun for the whole family.

It happens on Saturday May 22, 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the Sonny Gold fields, located at 333 Jacobs Well Ranch Road. Tickets are $35.
