Wimberley volleyball season ends in Regional Finals

It was a roller coaster week for the Wimberley Texans Volleyball team.

Tuesday night the Texans battle archrival Fredericksburg in the Regional Quarterfinals in Smithson Valley.

Their rivals from the Hill Country fought hard, but it was the Texans taking home the win at 3-1.

Wimberley then came home to celebrate Paige Crawford signing with Wake Forest on Wednesday night.

But with all roller coasters, they must come to an end.

After defeating Tulso-Midway in the Regional Semifinals, the Texans fought Needville in a epic five set match that unfortunately went in favor of the Bluejays as Need ville knocked off Wimberley 3-2.

The Texans’ season ends with a record of 34-8.

In the first set, Wimberley found themselves down 0-10.

However, like they have all season, the Texans fought back and soon found themselves tied up at 22-22.

After a fierce battle, the Texans finally put away Needville for a 30-28 first set win.

The second set turned into another fierce battle with neither team taking more than a two point lead as both teams found themselves tied at 18-18.

However the Bluejays went on a 7-0 run to take the second set at 25-18.

The third set was another battle as neither team again held a lead longer than two points as both teams were tied at 20-20.

Once again the Bluejays went on a run as they won the third set at 25-21.

The fourth set turned into another battle with both teams tied at 19-19.

Eventually, the Texans went on a 6-3 run to take the fourth set 25-22 and tie the game up at 2-2 to force a fifth set.

The fifth set was another struggle as the two tired teams continued to battle it out.

In the end, Needville was able to overwhelm the Texans to win the fifth set 15-12 to advance to the State Tournament in Garland.

Though the season didn’t turn to what Wimberley wanted, the Texans have established themselves as power in Region IV.

Don’t expect this to be the end of the Texans strong run.
