Wimberley stumbles against Cuero

It was a rough night for the Wimberley football team as the Texans fell to the Cuero Gobblers 21-3 amidst penalties and turnovers.

Cuero improves to 2-0 while Wimberley falls to 1-1.

The first drive ended in disaster for the Texans as Cuero picked off the ball for the first turnover of the game.

However, Wimberley took the ball right back with a fumble forced by the Code Red defense to give the offense some hope.

After a couple of plays, the Texans found themselves inside the 10 yard line.

But the drive was unsuccessful as Cuero recovered a Texans’ fumble inside the five yard line.

The Gobblers responded with a 94 yard pass, which set them up inside the Texans 10 yard line.

Cuero running back Tycen Williams scored from six yards out, but the twopoint conversion was no good giving the Gobblers a 6-0 lead.

The Texans tried to respond, but another interception, which was the third turnover of the game for Wimberley, ended the drive.

Cuero once again took advantage of the Wimberley turnover as Justice Belvin scored from 41 yards out to extend the lead at 13-0.

But the Texans were not finished yet. Moses Wray took the kickoff down to the Cuero 26 yard line.

The drive ended with three points for the Texans as Jack Bruner kicked a 34 yard field goal to cut the lead down to 13-3.

Both teams were held to a standstill heading into halftime with Cuero holding to a 13-3 lead.

After receiving the second half kickoff, Cuero scored the final points of the game as Williams scored from 74 yards out to extend the lead at 21-3 following a successful twopoint conversion.

The Texans responded with a big drive that saw Wimberley set up in the redzone; however, the Cuero defense held firm. The Texans were faced with fourth and nine.

Cuero’s ensuing sack ended the drive for the Texans as the Gobblers took over.

Following the three and out by the Code Red defense, the Texans offense drove down the field and into goal line territory.

But penalties and the firm Cuero defense held off the Texans, and Wimberley was faced with fourth and goal.

The Gobblers defense held off the Texans once again as Wimberley couldn’t convert on fourth and goal leading to the Gobblers 21-3 victory.

Wimberley looks to bounce this week as the Texans host the Lampasas Badgers.

The Badgers responded to their 55-58 season-opening loss to Brownwood with a 56-13 win over Elgin.
