Volleyball sweep through the first half of district

The Wimberley Texans volleyball team finished up the first half of district play by sweeping their opponents for a 5-0 district record concluding with a hard fought 3-2 win over Boerne.

The Texans improved their record to 24-7 overall while remaining at the top of the district standings.

In the first set against Boerne, both the Texans and Greyhounds fought hard as Boerne took an early 15-13 lead.

The battle continued as Boerne was at set point with a 24-22 lead before winning the first set at 25-22.

The Texans soon found themselves down again in the second set as the Greyhounds took a 18-14 lead.

However the Texans fought back to cut the lead down to 19-20.

Eventually Wimberley took the lead at 24-23 at set point.

An ace by Cameren Davis sealed the second set win for the Texans as the game was tied up at 1-1.

Another tough battle in the fourth set saw Wimberley take a 23-18 lead.

The Texans once again took the win despite a Boerne comeback to seal a 25-23 win.

Boerne then came back to win the fourth set in a thrilling 25-23 win to tie the game up at 2-2 and send it to a final fifth set.

The Texans rolled out to an early lead at 9-5 before outscoring the Greyhounds 6-3 to seal the match at 15-8.

Paige Crawford led the team in kills with 23 while also leading the team in digs with 19. Crawford, along with Davis, led the team in aces with three.

Davis also led the team in blocks with three while Jordan Weeks led the team in assists with 34.

The victory was followed by a Tuesday night win as Wimberley knocked off the Davenport Wolves 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19)

Wimberley is back home this week as the Texans host Canyon Lake Tuesday night and Bandera Friday night.

Tuesday night is also the official court dedication for legendary head volleyball coach Lee Grisham who led the Texans to six state championships.
