The quest for a return trip to the state tournament began this week for the Wimberley Texans volleyball team as they started district play.

Not only is the team looking to return to the Curtis Curwell Center, but the Texans are looking to capture their fourth straight district title.

Wimberley kicked off district this week as they traveled to Canyon Lake to battle the rival Hawks.

The Hawks were ready for their rivals as both teams were deadlocked at 9-9 in the first set.

Both teams battled hard, but it was Wimberley who came out on top in the first set winning 25-20.

The second set saw the Texans start off hot as Wimberley took a 13-4 lead.

Though Canyon Lake fought back from the deficit, it wasn’t enough as Wimberley won the second set 25-18.

The Texans finished the game by winning the third set 25-16 and sweeping Canyon Lake 3-0.

Leading the team in kills was the duo of Paige Crawford and Cameren Davis with ten each.

Davis also led the team in blocks with two.

Jordan Weeks and Maddy Harris led the team in aces with three, while Weeks also led the team in assists with 23.

Leading the team in digs was Emily Thames with 15.

The Texans victory over Canyon Lake followed their Tuesday night win over New Braunfels Christian Academy 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-12).

Wimberley is back on the road Tuesday night as they travel to Bandera to take on the Bulldogs before coming back home on Friday to take on rival Fredericksburg.
