Volleyball relishes home court victories

For the first time since August 17, the Wimberley Texans volleyball team was playing in the Texan Gym.

After a three week stretch which saw the Texans play in three tournaments and travel nearly thousands of miles, Wimberley was able to rest comfortably as they played two straight home games last week against Cedar Creek and Cuero.

In Tuesday’s matchup against Cedar Creek, the Texans opened up the home stretch with an emphatic sweep of the Eagles winning 3-0 (25-4, 25-7, 25-12).

Leading the team in kills this week was Paige Crawford with 10. Jesse Weeks led the team in a trio of categories with five aces, nine digs and 22 assists.

Reese Pirtle held the net for the Texans leading the team in blocks with two.

Wimberley then held their second home game on Friday as they squared off with the Cuero Gobblers.

It was a tough battle with the Gobblers but Wimberley held firm as the Texans came out with a 3-1 victory (25-14, 20-25, 25-17, 27- 25).

Crawford again led the team in kills with 12 while Maddie Harris led the team in aces with three.

Cameren Davis held the net while leading the team in blocks with three while Ellie Marko led the team in assists with 17.

Payton Helbig led the team in digs with 14.

The Texans improved their record this week to 17-6 overall.

Wimberley is back on the road again but not too far as they travel to Geronimo to take on the Navarro Panthers before coming back home on Friday to battle the La Vernia Bears.
