Volleyball prepares for district competition

The Wimberley High School volleyball team is on a roll, maintaining a ninegame winning streak after a strong tournament showing late last month.

The Lady Texans currently hold a 18-5 record this season, as of the time of publication.

The win streak comes on the heels of a three-set victory over the Burnet Bulldogs (25-20, 25-19, 25-20) on Friday. The team was led by Alabama commit Laney Hennessee, who had 15 kills. Rhagen Masur led the team in digs with 28, Jesse Weeks led in assists with 22 and Kenslee Brown led the team in blocks with three. Addison Laney and Masur tied for the lead with five aces.

Earlier in the week, Wimberley beat Pflugerville in three sets as well (25-17, 25-19, 2519). Hennessee led the team in kills with 14, Masur and Laney led the team in digs with 11, Weeks led the team in assists with 20, Mariah Mc-Coy led the team in blocks with 4 and Cameron Thames led the team in aces with 2.

Last season, the team managed a 3211 overall record after a season-ending playoff loss to Bellville High School. The Lady Texans finished second in the district last year and currently await the start of their district competition, having faced no in-league competition yet in 2023.

Whether or not the Lady Texans will be able to continue their streak against a district opponent is a question that will be answered later this week as Wimberley goes up against Fredericksburg High School. The two schools will face each other in a game on the road on Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. after a non-conference game against Blanco High School on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The Fredericksburg Billies currently hold a 13-13 overall record this season; this will be the first district matchup this year for them as well.
