Volleyball continues winning momentum

The Wimberley Texan volleyball team continued their tournament stretch this week as the team made the more than three-hour trip to Glen Rose to compete in the Glen Rose Tournament.

The Texans pool play opponents saw the team placed with Grandview, Sanger, Bowie and Clifton, which is the team Wimberley played first

The Texans overcame a slow start against the Clifton Cubs to win 2-1 (23-25, 25-9, 25-13).

Paige Crawford led the team in kills with 11 while Layla Dubbison held the net with two blocks. Jessie Weeks led the team in aces with four.

The Texans second game saw the team battle the Grandview Zebras. Despite the Zebras best efforts, Wimberley was able to hold off Grandview for a 2-0 victory (25-18, 25-18).

Crawford once again led the team in kills with 11 while Laney Hennesse held the net with two blocks.

Wimberley then set their sights on Sanger in the third game of the day.

It was another sweep for the Texans as they rolled to a 2-0 win (25-23, 25-12).

Crawford pulled double duty leading the team in both kills and blocks with eight and four. Cameren Davis and Ellie Marko both led the team in aces with three each.

In the final game of the day, the Texans took on the Bowie Jackrabbits.

After a tough first set, it was Wimberley who took another victory with another 2-0 sweep (26-24, 25-17).

Davis this time was the one who led the team in kills with five while Crawford led the team in blocks with three.

With their 4-0 day on Friday, the Texans advanced to their second straight Gold Bracket of the season.

The first game of the Gold Bracket saw Wimberley take on the Springtown Porcupines.

A tough battle against the Porcupines saw the Texans fall in 2-0 loss (22-25, 20- 25).

Crawford again led the team in kills with nine.

The next game saw the Texans battle the China Spring Cougars.

A well fought win in three sets saw China Spring overcome the Texans in a 2-1 victory (20-25, 25-21, 23- 25).

Crawford again led the team in kills with nine while Dubuisson led the team in blocks with three. Davis and Hennesse combined to lead the team in aces with three a piece.

With an overall record of 11-3, Texans will be on the road next week with a game against neighboring Blanco before traveling to a much shorter road trip to compete at the San Marcos tournament.
