Two Texans compete at State

Two Wimberley High School athletes competed in the UIL Swim and Dive State Championship over the weekend on the University of Texas campus.

Thom Naccarato qualified in two events and placed 10th in the 100-yard free style with a time of 47.39 seconds and 12th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.92 seconds.

“Thom did not even make it to state last year in the 100 backstroke, so to end up 12th in the state this year is incredible,” Swim Coach Jill Johnson said.

Evan Mayhew, who participated in his fourth straight State Championship, paced 12th in diving with 294.70 points.

“I’m very proud of him,” Johnson said. “Last year he placed 15th so it was great to see him improve on that. Both of these guys are seniors, so we are really going to miss them.”
