Two headed to Regional Cross Country

Two members of the Wimberley Girls’ Cross Country team will head on to regionals after finishing in the top 10 individually during the district meet.

Madison Anderson finished eighth overall with a time of 12 minutes, 47 seconds. She was one second ahead of Haley Hall, who finished ninth overall.

“Haley is a year-round runner, and she has great running technique in general that puts her at the elite group of runners in Wimberley,” Cross Country Coach Lacey Lambert said. “She is so competitive and has a natural ability and skill when it comes to run ning.”

Hall is a senior and that competitive streak seems to have been passed on.

“Madison has always followed in Haley’s footsteps,” Lambert said of the sophomore runner who out paced her senior mentor by a second – at least for this race. “The competition with Haley this year has really helped her. She is motivated to be the best. She has a positive attitude and she is determined.”

The team, which also consisted of Julia Rennels, Isabella Franchione, Risa Espinoza, Selah Jones and Allison Dodds, finished in fifth overall.

The boys’ cross country team placed seventh in district play and was led by senior Quinton Mendoza, who has run on varsity all four years of high school.

“Quinton had high hopes of making it into the regional meet after a great year,” Lambert said. “We had a big storm, and the meet was pushed back. Once the sun came out, there was really high humidity. Four runners in the meet did not finish the race due to those conditions, and he was one of them.”

Also at the meet was Ricky Dela, Owen, Watson, Arlen Hanle, Charlie Hanle, Cash Toomey and Brennen Ramsey.

The Region IV Cross Country meet will be held on Oct. 25 at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
