Texans sweep Bi-District playoffs

The Wimberley Texan volleyball team’s road to the state tournament started off on the right foot as the Texans swept the Pleasanton Eagles 3-0 to capture the Bi-District title.

The Texans victory marks the third straight year Wimberley has advanced to the Area Round of the playoffs.

The first set was a strong performance by the Texans as Wimberley won 25-14.

However, the Eagles stormed back to make the game competitive in the second set. By the end of the second set, the Texans knocked off Pleasanton 25-20 to take a dominating 2-0 lead.

Heading into the third set, Pleasanton went into desperation mode. With their season on the line, the Eagles looked for any avenue for success.

While the Eagles put up a tough battle, the Texans pulled through in the final set winning 25-22 to complete the Bi-District sweep.

Briana Jones led the team in both kills and blocks with 18 and four apiece. Holly Harwood led the team in aces with four.

The Wimberley Texans will battle the Rockport-Fulton Pirates in Area Round Tuesday night in Karnes City at 6:30.

The Pirates pulled off a minor upset in the playoffs by defeating the Columbia Roughnecks in the Bi-District round.
