Texans split first round of district play

The road to the playoffs continued for the Wimberley Texans volleyball team as the navy blue and red looked rounded out the first part of the district schedule with road games to Navarro and Canyon Lake.

With two heated rivalries on tap, it was sure to be an exciting round of games.

Tuesday night saw Wimberley make the road trip across I-35 to battle one of their fierce’s rivals in the Navarro Panthers.

The Panthers got off to a hot start as Navarro took the first two sets at 2522 and 25-17.

But it wasn’t quite over as the Texans fought back and took the third and fourth sets at 25-19, 25-19.

In the final set, the Panthers were able to knock off the Texans in a thrilling set at 15-13.

Leading the team in both kills and aces was Maddy Harris with 19 and two apiece.

Laney Hennessee led the team in blocks with three while Jesse Weeks led the team in assists with 35.

At the libero position, Rhaegan Masur led the team in digs with 33.

Following the loss, the Texans needed a win over another rival in order to stay in the playoff race.

Wimberley made the quick trip down to Canyon Lake to take on the Hawks in the volleyball edition of the Battle of the Backbone.

Wimberley made quick work of their Backbone rivals by sweeping the Hawks 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 2518).

Hennessee led the team in kills with 10 while Mariah McCoy held the net with a team high two blocks.

Weeks led the team in both assists and aces with 20 and three while Masur held down the back line with 16 digs.

As for the district standings, Davenport leads the district with a 6-0 record while Navarro and Fredericksburg are tied with 4-2 records.

Boerne and Wimberley are tied for fourth place with 3-3 records.

Wimberley restarts district play over again as they will travel to Fredericksburg after the time of press on Tuesday while hosting the Davenport Wolves for homecoming Friday Night.
