Texans snap four game losing streak with a pair of wins

Heading into last week on a four game losing streak, the Wimberley baseball team needed a jump start before heading into district play.

Out-scoring their opponents by a combined 29-3, Wimberley was back into the win column with two big wins defeating the Llano Yellow jackets 14-3 on Tuesday night, and defeating the Smithville Tigers 15-0 on Friday night.

Luckily for the Texans, they responded to the losing streak in a big way.

“It feels awesome,” Wisdom said. “We talked about that a little bit on Tuesday after Llano that they (Llano) didn’t play their best. They’ve played good ball this year, and that’s the worst game they’ve played. But the fact we went through that tournament, and we got beat down a little bit playing some good teams but not playing our ball and so it was a big uplift for us. That’s what I took from it, the kids felt good about it. They were energetic and talking, so if we can carry that over then I can take that anyday.”

The Texans struck first in the first inning as an error by the second baseman allowed Hagen Donley to score for Wimberley to take a 1-0 lead.

Dylan Kincaid then hit a two-run RBI double to add on to the lead before Ruger Riojas hard ground ball single added two more runs to make it 5-0.

Wimberley scored on another Llano error before the Yellowjackets walked in a run to make it 7-0.

Another walk in run for the Texans added another score before Josh Prado scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-0.

A Kyler Lai RBI single added another run for the Texans as Wimberley entered the 2nd inning with a 10-0 lead.

After shutting out Llano in the second inning, Wimberley scored again as Llano walked in their third run of the game with two outs.

Ethan Lancaster then hit a two out RBI to clear the bases as the Texans extended the lead at 14- 0.

Llano finally scored their first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning as a sac fly scored one run for the Yellowjackets.

An error by the Texans defense added one more run for Llano as they trimmed the lead down to 14-2.

A RBI triple added another run for the Yellowjackets, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the runrule as the Texans ended the 5th inning to win 14- 3.

Ethan Lancaster led the team in RBIs going 1-3 with four RBIs, while Dylan Kincaid and Ruger Riojas followed behind with two RBIs each.

Wimberley was back home again on Friday as they took on Smithville.

The Texans were able to score at least two runs in each inning as Wimberley rolled to a 15-0 win over the Tigers to complete the full week turnaround.

Lane Patek led the team in hitting going 2-4 with three RBIs followed by Prado, Kincaid, and Lancaster with two RBIs.

The Wimberley pitching staff of Chase Carson, Ryan Slade and Riojas combined to allow just two hits and throw 11 strikeouts.

The Texans kickoff district played this week for a major showdown against archrival Canyon Lake in a two game series in the Battle of the Backbone.

Game one will be on Tuesday night at Canyon Lake while Friday’s contest will be at home in Wimberley.
