Texans fall in the area round

The Wimberley baseball team saw their season come to an end as the Texans fell to the #17 ranked Sweeney Bulldogs in the area round of the playoffs losing Game one 3-2 and then falling in Game two 5-0.

It is the end of a successful season for the Texans after barely starting the 2019 season before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a roster full of seniors and juniors, Wimberley bounced back and finished the season with a 19-11-3 record with wins over district champion Canyon Lake and a thrilling series with rival Boerne that saw the Texans defeat the Greyhounds in a tiebreaker game to secure second place in district.

Wimberley then took home the Bi-District championship with a two-game sweep of La Vernia to bring home the gold trophy for the first time since 2019.

In game one of the area round, the Bulldogs took an early lead in the first inning as an one out RBI single allowed Sweeny to take an 1-0 lead.

But the lead wasn’t for long as Ethan Lancaster scored Ty Cabler on an RBI single to tie the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.

The tie didn’t last long though as the Bulldogs scored in the second inning following a sac fly towards left field as Sweeny retook the lead at 2-1.

A scoreless 1.5 innings eventually led to another score for the Texans as an error by the center fielder allowed Jacob Quartucci to score and tie the game up at 2-2.

But the tie once again didn’t last long as a wild pitch by the Texans allowed one run to score as Sweeny took back the lead at 3-2.

The Bulldogs pitching staff closed down the Texan offense as Sweeny retired the nine straight batters to win Game 1 at 3-2.

Game two for the was not good for the Texans either as the Sweeny pitching staff allowed just one hit as the Bulldogs went on the win 5-0.

Though the season came to a disappointing end, the Texans will have a lot to build on for the future.
