Texans baseball 0-2 at Round Rock Legends Tournament

On Thursday the Wimberley Texans baseball team (22) participated in a Round Rock Independent School District’s Legends Tournament where they finished 0-2 after starting the season off with a win.

In the first game, they took on the Round Rock Cedar Ridge Raiders (6-4) where they started the game off strong, scoring two runs in the first and pitching three scoreless innings to be up 2-0 going into the fourth.

In the fourth inning, the Raiders scored the first run and got the ball rolling as they scored another run in the fifth with Wimberley matching them with a run of their own.

In the sixth inning, Cedar Ridge piled on five runs and ran away with the game as they held Wimberley scoreless in the last two innings, winning the game 7-3.

Later that day, the Texans took on the Round Rock Stony Point Tigers (6-6) and lost in a close game, 7-6, despite being up 6-3 going into the last inning. Wimberley came out hot, putting up five runs in the first two innings with two runs in the first and three in the second while they held the Tigers scoreless for the first two innings.

In the third, the Tigers got on the board, scoring a single run in the third and the fourth innings. Going into the seventh, the Texans were up 6-3. After giving up a run to bring the score to 6-4, the Tigers hit a bases-clearing double to score three more runs and win the game 7-6.

On Friday, the Texans participated in another double header where they lost the first and won the second. In the first game they took on the Cedar Park Vista Ridge Rangers (2-3-1), eventually falling to them with a final score of 11-2. The Rangers piled on runs early on in the game, going up 6-1 after the first two innings, and then running away with the game in the fourth and fifth by adding five more runs combined. The game ended in the bottom of the sixth with a final score of 11-2.

Later that day on Friday, the Texans took on the Round Rock McNeil Mavericks (1-2) turning the script of the earlier game and taking the second game, 16-5. After the first four innings, the game was tied up at five, but in the last three innings Wimberley made a statement, scoring two, five, and four runs in each inning respectively, to take a commanding lead while they held the Mavericks scoreless, to win the game 16-5.

Wimberley will be back home this weekend as the Texans host the Texan Classic, Thursday through Friday. Wimberley will play Cibolo Steele Thursday at 9 a.m. before playing Floresville at 1:30 p.m. On Friday, the Texans will play Godley at 3:45 p.m. Wimberley will close out Saturday with a showdown with Stephenville at 9 a.m. before playing Austin Crockett at 6 p.m.
