Texan volleyball wins dramatic game to keep streak alive
In their lone game of the week, the Wimberley Texan Volleyball team traveled to Rogers this week to tangle with the Eagles.
The first set went badly for the Texans as Wimberley fell to Rogers 25-11.
Despite the rough start, Wimberley came back to fight hard with the Eagles and were out prove the first set was a fluke.
Battling hard, the Texans came up short in their efforts falling in the second set 25-20.
Down 2-0 and facing a possible sweep, it was up to the Texans to avoid taking a quick loss.
The third set was a tooth and nail battle as the Texans fought to stave off the sweep. In the end, Wimberley won the set 27-25 and lived to fight another set.
The fourth set was another drama-filled event. Fighting off a potential loss, it was the Texans surviving the Rogers attack and outlasting the Eagles in an epic 30-28 win to force a final and fifth set.
The Eagles pushed the Texans to their limit but in the end, it was Wimberley who emerged victorious with an outstanding 17-15 victory to extend their winning streak to eight games.
Leading the way for the Texans was Paige Crawford, who recently announced her commitment to Wake Forest, with 24 kills. Annie Detmer led the team in aces with three while Brina Jones and Layla Dubisson both led the team in blocks with four.
The Wimberley Texans start play again this week on the road as they travel to Georgetown to play Georgetown Prep on Tuesday and then travel Friday to Cuero to take on the Gobblers.
