Texan golf sweeps individual district championships

The Wimberley High School girls’ and boys’ golf teams competed at the District 28-4A meet on March 29-30 at Kerrville’s Scott Schreiner Golf Course. Junior Hallie Adare was the individual district champion on the girls’ side, while freshman Jaxon Donaldson won the boys individual championship. Both Wimberley teams finished third in the team standings.

Adare led the way for the girls, shooting a 77 on the first day of action and following it up with a 76 on day two for a total of 153. Her total was 16 strokes better than the second place district finisher. Peyton Smith (188 total), Brooke Burcham (221), Kaitlyn Kohls (235), and Kaylee Shroyer (243) also competed for the Wimberley girls. Along with Adare they combined to shoot 401 on day one and 393 for day two, a total of 794. Davenport HS won the team district title with a total of 749 Fredericksburg was second with 759.

Donaldson dominated the competition, winning district by 15 strokes over his next closest competitor. Donaldson had a two day total of 138 strokes (69/69) to pace the team. Gage Pruitt (167-tied for 7th place), Hunter Peevey (180), Keller Cudney (187), and Robby Richter (191) also played for the Wimberley squad. Fredericksburg was first in the team standings with a total of 663, and Boerne was second, nine strokes ahead of Wimberley’s total of 672 with 663.

Both Adare and Donaldson will advance to the regional tournament to be held at Colony Creek Golf Course in Victoria. Hallie will play on April 19-20, Jaxon will compete on April 21-22. The golf teams are coached by Dane Saucier.
