Texan baseball opens season with a strong start

After making it to the Area Round of the 4A playoffs in 2019, the Wimberley Texans baseball team hoped to continue that success in the 2020 season.

But all that changed when the pandemic hit and forced the UIL to cancel the 2020 season.

Now with the start of the 2021 season underway, Wimberley looks to make up for lost time.

Similarly to the softball team, the baseball team also faced the challenge of not playing a full scrimmage in nearly two weeks due to the winter storm.

The Texans kicked off the season Tuesday night with 4-0 win over Navarro, which saw the Wimberley pitching staff allow zero runs off of three hits.

Leading the scoring attack for the Texans was senior Nash Elsner whose RBI double in the fourth inning broke 0-0 deadlock.

Wimberley then traveled to Fredericksburg to play in the 34th Eberle-Boeck Memorial Tournament.

The Texans kicked off the tournament against the Burnet Bulldogs.

Trailing 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning, the Texans scored seven runs on route to a 9-2 victory.

Wimberley closed out the day against Antonian Prep.

Despite allowing just four hits, Prep scored eight runs compared to Wimberley’s two in the Texans 8-2 loss.

Wimberley closed out the tournament on Friday against Austin McCollum and Llano.

After tying McCollum in a 6-6 game, the Texans closed out the day with a 10-8 win over Llano.

Despite being tied up at 6-6, the Wimberley offense out scored Llano 4-2 in the final two innings to take home the win.

Wimberley comes back home Tuesday night against La Grange before traveling to Llano to participate in the Hill Country Classic.
