Softball wins despite fighting the weather

It’s a new season for the Wimberley Texans softball team as they kickoff the 2022 season.

Last year’s team finished the season in a chaotic Bi-District playoff game where the Texans lost in a monsoon soaked environment against La Vernia.

Wimberley kicked off the season and the home opener against Austin Anderson Trojans.

The bats came alive for the Texans as they connected for 18 runs to run-rule the Trojans 18- 8.

MacKenzie Moore led the offensive charge going for 3-5 with a double and three RBIs.

Starting pitcher Ashlyn Castro pitched for five innings allowing one earned run and six hits.

The Texans then traveled to Taylor to battle the Ducks.

The Ducks overwhelmed the Texans en route to a 10-0 loss for Wimberley.

The Texans bats were cooled off as they could muster just one hit.

Wimberley was tied up with Taylor 0-0 through the 1st and 3rd innings until the Ducks scored five runs both in the fourth and fifth innings to run-rule the Texans.

But the loss was a minor setback as last Tuesday Wimberley bounced back to topple the Bastrop Bears 12-1.

Juniper Daniels, Addison Kirbo and Peyton Smith led the offensive charge with two RBIs between the three with Kirbo going 2-3 with a triple.

In the last game of the week, the Texans took on Canton in the Texan Softball Tournament that was shortened due to weather.

The shootout ended with the Texans scoring four runs in the fourth inning to knock off Canton in a 9-8 win.

Wimberley returns to play Tuesday night against Cedar Creek before traveling to Burnet to compete in the Burnet Softball Tournament for the weekend.
