Softball has strong finish in Burnet tournament

Deep in the heart of tournament season, the Wimberley Texan softball team continues to battle team after team as they travel to play in the Burnet Tournament.

In the first game of the tournament, the Texans found themselves playing against the hosts in the Burnet Bulldogs.

Burnet was able to bring home 13 runs in the game as the Bulldogs blew out the Texans in a 13-1 loss.

As part of their double header on Thursday, the Texans had to bounce back from their loss as they took on The Woodlands College Park Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers added to the Wimberley woes on Thursday as College Park shut out and no-hit the Texans in a 9-0 loss for Wimberley.

Bruising from their two losses, Wimberley needed a bounce back on Friday as they took on the Gunter Tigers.

Despite taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, Gunter scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to hand Wimberley their third straight loss at 4-2.

Ashlyn Castro had a strong day pitching allowing just one hit off two earned runs with seven strikeouts in four innings as Addison Kirbo and Jordan Lynch added the teams only RBIs with one apiece.

Holding a three game losing streak over their heads, the Texans decided to take a little frustration out on their next opponent in the Pflugerville Connally Panthers.

Opening the game with a whopping 10 runs in the first inning, the Texans blew out the Panthers to snap their three game losing streak en route to a 14-4 win over Pflugerville Connally.

Juniper Daniel led the team in RBIs with three while Mackenzie Moore, Peyton Smith, and Katie Schroder were tied for second with two RBIs apiece with Moore going 2-2 while crossing the plate three times.

Wimberley finished off the Burnet Tournament Saturday afternoon against the Lago Vista Vikings.

The Texans continued their offensive hot streak once again scoring 15 runs including seven runs in the second inning to shutout the Vikings 15-0.

Daniel, Lynch, Schroder, and Jeese Weeks lead the team in RBIs with two apiece.

The Texan pitching team of Addision Kirbo, Schroder, and Cat Pendelton held the Vikings to just one hit and zero runs.

Wimberley is back home for a two game stretch this week as they host Marion Wednesday night with the JV playing at 4 p.m. and the Varsity playing at 6 p.m. before hosting Midland Greenwood on Friday at 6 p.m.
