Softball goes 1-1

The bats lit up for the Wimberley Texan softball team, but it wasn’t enough to nab both victories last week as the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies were able to squeak out a victory.

In the first game last week, the Texans jumped out to a quick lead with four runs in the first inning before eventually putting 12 runs on Canyon Lake.

“The Canyon Lake game was the first time in a while our bats game alive,” Head Coach Robert Klick said. “I was really impressed with our girls and our hitting. We had at least two runners on every inning of the game.”

Sydnie Cranford led the Texans with three hits in the ball game while Caroline Cagle managed three RBIs and a homerun. Cagle also held the Hawks to just two earned runs while striking out 13 in the ball game.

The bats stayed hot for the game on Friday versus Fredericksburg, but the Texans were unable to bring runners all the way home. In seven innings, the Texans left the bases loaded three times.

“It was one of those games we hit the ball hard, but in those key times with runners on, we hit them right at people,” Klick said. “They made plays, and we didn’t make some.”

Wimberley out hit Fredericksburg 12 to five in the ball game but three errors led to three of the four runs scored.

“We scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to make it 4-2, but we ended up leaving the bases loaded again,” Klick said.

The Texan’s record is now 12-8-2 on the season and 2-1 in district play. They play next at home against Boerne on Friday at 6 p.m.
