Softball entangled in tie for playoff spot

The Wimberley softball team had a rough week as the Texans lost to Fredericksburg 11-1 and dropped the last home game of the season to the Davenport Wolves in a 3-0 loss.

With the loss to Davenport, Wimberley is now entangled in a messy three way tie for third and fourth place with Canyon Lake and Bandera.

On their Senior Night game against Davenport, the Texans honored their three seniors in Caylee Gillis, Juniper Daniel, and Ryhan Masur.

With a team loaded with young talent, the three seniors have been doing their best in navigating what has been an up and down season for the team.

After both teams failed to get on the scoreboard in three innings, Davenport was able to score first following a RBI double.

An error by the Texans defense allowed the Wolves to add another run as Davenport took a 2-0 lead.

Davenport threatened to score again with runners at third, and first but a flyout to Katie Schroeder ended the inning.

After the Texans failed to score in the bottom of the fourth inning, Davenport added another run to their lead following a groundout RBI which extended the lead to 3-0.

With the Texans struggling to get on the scoreboard throughout the game, it all came down to the bottom of the 7th.

Reese Adams’ one out single helped the Texans comeback before a McKenzie Milton double put both runners in scoring position.

But the comeback was not to be as Davenport kept the Texans off base with the next two outs to seal the 3-0 win.

In their game against Fredericksburg, the Texans struck the first blow as Cypress Daniel’s RBI single scored Milton which allowed Wimberley to take a 1-0 lead.

Despite Fredericksburg retaking the lead at 3-1 in the top of 1st inning, the Texans turned the double play to end the inning and the scoring threat.

After a scoreless second inning by both teams, Fredericksburg opened the floodgates in the bottom of the 3rd inning which saw the Billies score eight runs to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

The Billies then rode out the rest of the game till the fifth inning to secure the 11-1 victory.

The Texans will have one more chance to escape the three-way tie Tuesday as the Texans head to Boerne to battle the Greyhounds.
