Local Radio Station names All-time Texan football team

Although temperatures are still in the 100’s and are forecast for more of the same, school is back in session and it is nearing the end of August. This can mean only one thing; it is the kickoff of Texas High School Football for the 2018 season.

KWVH Radio 94.1 has the latest on all the Texans throughout the year, but for the first time, an All Time Texan football team was named by the station encompassing the last 31 years’ teams.

Gary Snoe and Darren Masur who host the “Texan Tailgate” radio show, 4 p.m. on Fridays (before the game) researched and came up with the list.

“We tried to narrow this down to the TOP 50 players of all-time in the 31 year history of Wimberley Football. This is a football program that has made 25 playoff appearances, 4 State semi-final appearances, and 2 State Championships. It wasn’t an easy task. Gary Snoe and I did not vote, we polled,” Masur said.

“This was such as tough task to do. Lots of really good football players that were left out and that you could make a good argument for should be on this list. This group listed here could go win a state championship right now,” current Texans Head Coach Doug Warren.

Best of the Best, Most Valuable Player Alden Mann said, “Thank you, I feel extremely honored. Definitely in debt to Coach Warren, Smith, Nelms, Holt, Cockerham, Saucier, (and) Demarco. Each of these coaches I can remember one or more specific moments where they truly made me better. “

Past coaches were also honored, including State Championship Coach Weldon Nelms. “Wimberley gave me a 2nd home and 15 great years of coaching, community, and love. Texan Pride burns deep in my heart and I was so privileged to have had the opportunity to coach and be a part of a great Tradition.”

Darren Masur contributed to this story.
