Lady Texans win bronze at Navarro tournament

The Wimberley Girls Basketball team was able to bring home a trophy this past weekend as the Lady Texans won the Bronze Championship at the Navarro Tournament.

The Lady Texans improved their record to 9-7 overall.

The tournament didn’t start off well for the Texans as they dropped their first two tournament games.

In game one, the Texans battled the La Vernia Lady Bears.

Though it was a tough battle, the second half surge by the Lady Bears was enough to put La Vernia on top in a 68-42 loss for the Lady Texans.

In the second game, Wimberley took on the San Marcos HomeSchool Panthers.

It was a tough battle for the Lady Texans, and although they fought hard it wasn’t enough to overcome the Panthers as Wimberley lost 67-50.

Despite starting off 0-2 in the tournament, the Lady Texans hadn’t given up yet.

In their game against the San Antonio Cole Cougars, the Lady Texans found themselves down at one point 31-20 in the second quarter.

But in the third quarter, the Texans eventually took their first lead of the game en route to a 32-31, which soon turned into a big back and forth between the two teams.

Eventually Wimberley completed their comeback en route to a 56-49 win over the Cougars for their first victory in the Navarro Tournament.

In their game against the Lytle Pirates, it was a fierce back and forth matchup between the Lady Pirates and the Lady Texans as both teams traded the lead.

The tight contest headed into the fourth quarter with neither team refusing to give in to the other.

In the end, it was the Lady Texans who came out on top with a close 50-48 win to advance to the Bronze Championship game against Del Rio.

In the championship game against the Del Rio Lady Rams, the Lady Texans fought off a couple of comeback attempts from the Lady Rams as Wimberley took home the win at 56-48 to capture the Bronze Championship in the Navarro Tournament.

The Lady Texans will travel to Harper on Tuesday to battle the Lady Longhorns before hosting St. Stephens on Friday.
