Lady Texans prepares to start the second round of district play

The Wimberley girls basketball team wrapped up the first round of district play last week with an important 49-46 win over the Davenport Wolves before falling to the state ranked Boerne Greyhounds in a 74-24 loss.

As their record stands, the Lady Texans sit with an 19-12 overall record and sit firmly in third place with a 3-2 overall record.

In their 49-46 win over Davenport, Lily Dela Rosa led the team in scoring with 17 points while Raygan Pack was second in scoring with 11 points.

Burcham led the team in rebounds with 14 while Dela Rosa was second in rebounds with 13 which completed a double-double. Laney Hennessee was third in rebounding with 12.

Overall, the team dominated the boards with 23 offensive rebounds and 34 defensive rebounds for a grand total of 54 rebounds to help edge out the Wolves.

On Friday’s game, the Lady Texans were overwhelmed by the Boerne defense as the Greyhounds rolled to a 74-24 victory.

Pack led the team in scoring with 12 points while Dela Rosa was second with five points.

But as rough as their loss to Boerne was, Wimberley will need to regroup as the second part of the district schedule begins this week.

With their 3-2 record in district play, the Lady Texans are in prime position to qualify for the playoffs for the third straight year.

In their upcoming schedule, two wins this week over Canyon Lake and Bandera will quite possibly qualify Wimberley for the playoffs while a loss could send the entire district standings into potential chaos.

The Lady Texans will host the Canyon Lake Hawks in a Battle of the Backbone double feature Tuesday night and will travel to Bandera to take on the Bulldogs.
